If most of us think about Brazil’s agriculture, what generally comes to mind is coffee, cane sugar, soybeans, and exotic fruit—not grapes. Brazil has made wine since 1551, and its wine industry has undergone a true revolution in the last 30 to 40 years. It boasts an immense variety of grapes, wine types, vine growing practices, and, of course, terroirs. Brazil is the third-largest producer of wine in Latin America, behind Argentina and Chile. This diversity is one of the reasons such a large number of varieties succeed in Washington.
Pairing wine with tomatoes can be challenging. Whether you serve your tomatoes straight off the vine, in a salad, off the grill, in a sauce, or on a pizza, there’s a wine for you to create that perfect pairing.
