Vino Mas August Wine Club: Wines from Spain!

The main red and white wine this month is from the historic Can Feixes estate is nestled in an incomparable setting on the slopes of the mountains north of the Upper Penedès wine region of Barcelona and is situated on gravelly slopes of mountainside terrain. It is the highest vineyard estate in the region at over 1,400 feet, nestled at the tree line near the famous Montserrat pinnacle, which forms Penedès' northern boundary, it is the farthest Penedès vineyard from the Mediterranean. . The vineyard forms an ecological environment where the different crops and the varied vegetation interact completely in a perfect symbiosis between the cultivated and wildlands, thus reflecting the best expression of biodiversity in agriculture.

Only the best grapes, and subsequently the best wines, are kept for production under the family label. Only free-run must from rigorously selected grapes is used. Bottled production averages 6,000 cases per year depending on vintage.

Can Feixes - Negre Seleccio 2017

Wine maker notes: 70% Tempranillo and 30% Merlot from selected fruit-forward lots, aged six months in used French and Amercian oak. Juicy yet mineral with hints of tobacco, and a lingering fresh plum and cherry finish. Average age of vines: 30 Years old

Can Feixes - Blanc Seleccio 2018

Wine maker notes: Parellada, Macabeo, Chardonnay, and a touch of Malvasía deSitges. Parellada at its best, from high altitude, gravelly mountain soils: intenselemon-oil aroma with firm acid structure enhanced by the rare, glyceric Malvasía.Stony and aromatic, reminiscent of France’s Chablis or Rheingau. Average age of vines: 60 Years old Certified Organic by the “Consell Català de la Producció Agrària Ecològica”.

Bodegas Sommos Garnacha - Xiloca (Compliment Red)

Wine maker notes: Intense blackberry color and aroma are captivating. Freshness and integrated tannins invite a second sip. The intensity continues in a mouth filling palate and a lingering fruit/mineral finish. Age of vines: 40-100 Years old.

Neboa Albarino (Compliment White)

Wine maker notes:
A floral, blossomy nose with peach and apricot aromas which carry through on the palate with taut structure, complex fresh fruit, understated mid-palate weight, all on a strong backbone of mineral acidity.
