September Vino Mas Wine Club Bianchi Wines
09/04/2024
This month we are drinking back in the good ole USA! Our wines for September are from Paso Robles (this region is half way between Los Angels and San Francisco) and the main red is a Petite Sirah. The long, hot days in Paso Robles with cooler evenings helps to create concentrated flavors with med to high acidity that balance Petite Sirah from this region. The complement red is a Merlot, this is a deliciously smooth wine that if you have a resistance to Merlot, should get you to change your mind to realize that you actually do, like Merlot. The white is a Pinot Grigio that is pressed whole cluster for juice extraction and is light, refreshing and easy to drink. Salute!
I paired the Petite Sirah with a bourbon walnut/pistachio chicken that was fantastic. The sweetness from the brown sugar, butter and bourbon in the sauce, the juiciness from the chicken and the savory notes from the nuts and chives matched the flavors and body of the wine. This recipe is one that I will make over and over again. I used Cut Spike Certified Evil Barrel Bourbon which is from one of our local distillery's; Brickway Brewery and Distillery. They recently revamped their tap room in La Vista, if you have not had a chance to visit it, I highly recommend it.
Deb paired the Pinot Grigio this month. "The Bianchi Pinot Grigio is very soft and fruity with lower acidity than the ones out of Italy. I really wanted to use shrimp for my dish this month and tasting this wine I knew it could handle a little spice. The brussels sprouts, caramelized onions, pine nuts and creamy tanginess of the feta cheese were an amazing compliment to the crunch of the bacon wrapped shrimp and spiciness of the peach glaze. Add in the wine's tropical fruits, especially the flavors of pineapple and peach, and the longer finish and you will be in heaven.
Right now peaches are in season and the produce departments are overflowing with them. The Pinot Grigio has juicy flavors of tropical fruit and peaches, the spicey peach sauce was a perfect match for the wine. The bacon paired well due to the zesty citrus and green apple notes which contrasted with the rich, salty, and smoky flavors of bacon. Can you ever go wrong with anything that has bacon??? I say no, and then to pair with a delicious wine, I'm all in!
AJ is pairing the Merlot this month, I will have that recipe to go with the wine in next weeks eNews.
