Wine, the bridge that connects cultures and brings people together.
The Auctioneer Cabernet is our main wine this month from Broadbent selections. Inspired by Michael Broadbent's pioneering role as an auctioneer, The Auctioneer Cabernet from Napa Valley celebrates his instrumental contribution to the world of wine auctions. As the Head of Christie's Wine Department, Michael spearheaded the first wine auction in 1966, shaping the landscape of wine auctions worldwide. The Auctioneer also honors his connection to Napa and the Napa Valley Wine Auction which he co-founded with Robert Mondavi.I paired with Auctioneer Cabernet with a Southwest Chicken and Black Bean dish. With perfectly seasoned saucy black beans and chicken, this dish is a quick, delicious and nutritious meal, great for a work night when you don't want to spend a lot of time cooking. It only uses 1 pot, so cleanup is a breeze! The Auctioneer Cabernet shows lots of dark fruit, floral notes, baking spices and eucalyptus, on both the nose and palate. The minty and spice notes in the wine went well with the oregano and mint that the chicken is seasoned with. Oregano is in the mint "family" so the two spices work well together. The black beans gave the dish an earthy note that balanced the floral qualities in the wine. This dish is full of antioxidant's from the beans, avocado, onion, garlic and lime juice and can be made without the chicken to be Vegetarian or Vegan. If you use cheese to top, use a sharp cheddar, this will pair beautifully with the Cabernet.
What a treat to have two Cabernets in wine club this month! My family are die hard fajita fans! Whenever we can't think of something creative, we rely on this staple as a satisfying quick meal. The Broadbent is an impressive medium bodied Cab with rich dark fruits, subtle spices and a tannin structure that made a perfect companion to the steak and spice in the fajita. Adding on an avocado, tomato and black bean salsa enhanced the already smooth finish of this North Coast Cabernet.
Cold weather, is soup weather! I paired our white this month, the Forever Sisters Unoaked Chardonnay with a Minestrone soup. I love soup anytime of year, but tend to make more of it in the winter months. You can use an veggies that you have on had for this soup as well as any type of pasta. The citrus flavors in the wine brightened up the palate so you had a better flavor experience than if you were to eat the soup alone. Anyway you look at it - Soup is Good Food!
