March 2023 Wine Club

The Pasaeli K2 Bordeaux blend comes from a vineyard that overlooks the Aegian sea in Turkey. The vineyards are farmed using organic and biodynamic methods, and all the work is done by hand.  As soon as I tasted this, I wrote down, needs to be paired with a pork and fruit dish. The pork chop, roasted strawberry-wine dish was delicious with the K2.  This wine shows lots of dark berries with notes of mocha.  The rich strawberry-wine sauce went with the wine fabulously.  You could substitute cherries or raspberries for this sauce also.  I like this wine right out of the bottle, but if you prefer softer tannins, I would recommend that you decant the wine for a short time before you drink it.

The Pannonhalma Archabbey towers over a small northeast Hungarian town in between the historic cities of Vienna and Budapest. Benedictine Monks have operated the hilltop winery since 996, and from the very beginning, they made wine. The "Tricollis" White Blend from Hungary is currently one of my favorite whites in the store.  It is highly aromatic, with persimmon, leche and citrus on both the nose and palate.  If you are a Sushi fan, this is the perfect wine to pair with your rolls.  If you like anything with a bit of "heat" this is the white wine to pair with your spicy food.  I paired crab cakes and an avocado salad with the wine, it was a delicious combination.

The Quinta Nova from Poetugal is a unique unoaked red blend, that uses the Quinta Nova da Nossa Senhora do Carmo’s main grape varieties - Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz and Tinto Cão. It has an authentic and intense flavor that demonstrates that it does not need to be aged in an oak barrel to be sophisticated. This wine will show better if you put a little chill on it.  There are lots of cherry and black raspberry notes that show on the palate along with light minerality.  I paired this wine with a creamy salmon mushroom dish.  The earthiness of the mushrooms and fat content in the salmon complimented the minerality of the wine.

Pannonhalmi Apátsági Pincészet "Tricollis" White Blend from Hungary
  • NOTES:   White ‘Tricollis’ is a classic central European blend comprised of mostly Welshriesling and Riesling with some Gewürztraminer and Pinot Blanc. This wine is addictingly aromatic on the nose with a rush of acidity on the palate. Incredibly floral, with notes of citrus, melon, and minerals, ‘Tricollis’ is a bright and refreshing wine.
