May 2023 Vino Mas Wine Club
05/02/2023
May is Oregon Wine Month. We are celebrating this month at Vino Mas by highlighting wines from Ovum in Oregon. Established in 2011 by Ksenija and John House, Ovum was founded in hopes of producing Oregon wines that are honest reflections of time and place.  Their low intervention production method is a commitment to letting the vintage and vineyard shine, not the vintner.  Fruit comes first - Ovum's top priority is finding farmers that share their beliefs, and then getting out of the way so their hard work can be tasted.

Our main wine is the EZYTGR Pinot Noir, red complement is the EZYTGR Red Blend and the white is the Old Love.

I paired the EZY TGR Pinot Noir with a Wild Salmon Chowder with fire roasted tomatoes.  This is one of my favorite soups and I make it quite often.  Super easy.  I also add thinly sliced carrots to the recipe, but that is optional.  The slight spice of the cayenne and the roasted tomatoes complemented the spice and fruit that shows through on the palate with the Pinot Noir.  This makes a great main dish served with a salad and crusty bread, delish!

The Ovum Old Love White Blend is an easy drinking blend that has notes of stone fruits, citrus and honey.  It has nice acidity with a bright minerality.  This wine wine is a blend of Risling, Gewürztraminer, Albarino and Pinot Blanc. The whipped Feta honey dip was great with the wine.  I did a full board with the dip that was almost a meal in itself.  With summer just around the corner, this is a great dip with fresh veggies and crackers to take to your cook outs. You can make this vegan by subbing Vegan Cream Cheese and Feta for the regular versions.

I paired the EZY TGR Red Blend with a meat lasagna. I did not publish a recipe for this dish, most people have their own favorite way to make lasagna as it can be made many different ways. The wine paired well with the ground Turkey version that I made. I paired the Red Blend with a meat lasagna.
