Nov Wine Club
11/01/2023
The start of Nov means the Holiday's are right around the corner.  I do not pair the Nov and Dec wine club wines with recipes because of the holiday dinners that are typically made to spend with friends and family.  The wines this month are from France and Germany.  We are highlighting a Beaujolais, Cote du Rhone and a DRY Riesling.

The Main wine for this month is the Château de La Chaize and the winery is among the oldest, most historic estates in the Beaujolais region. Beaujolais is a French wine region immediately to the south of Burgundy.  The red wines of Beaujolais are based on the Gamay grape variety.  There are 10 Cru's in this Region with the La Chaize coming from the Brouilly Cru.  This is the most southern of all the Cru's and just a little bit more Mediterranean with slightly warmer temperatures. This unique terroir lends an exuberance to the wine’s fruity aromas and flavors of plum and strawberry, spice and floral notes. It is  and low tannins are the trifecta as to why Gamay and Thanksgiving go hand in hand.

Chateau de La Chaize

NOTES: Delectable, fruity nose underscored with aromas of red and black fruits. Generous and aromatic on the palate, with silky tannins; Balanced and delicate. Expressive, generous and enjoyable right now, this is a perfect wine to enjoy with a slight chill.

Many of us find that we share our Thanksgiving meals with a a group of people whose tastes and wine savvy span a wide range. Choosing wine for such a diverse gathering doesn't have to be hard. Because Thanksgiving dinner can be heavy — you need something moderate to light in alcohol, with high acidity to balance all that richness. A Riesling is an easy-drinking wine that can handle everything from salty to sweet, to a mapley glaze on the turkey. The Alfred Merkelback Riesling Trocken (trocken means DRY) is a fantastic food-friendly wine that appeals to a wide variety of tastes. Its crisp, palate-refreshing acidity helps explain Riesling’s well-earned reputation as one of the world’s great food wines.

NOTES:
This DRY (Trocken) Riesling is clean, crisp and citrusy with lemon verbena, lime skin, petrol and slate flavors. It is made in the town of Ürzig of 100% Riesling from various vineyards with slate soils. The wine is made with spontaneous fermentation and aging in old Mosel fuder. In the Mosel, before vinification in stainless steel and fiberglass became more prevalent in the 1960s, a wine merchant would taste and select his Riesling from wooden casks—usually the traditional 1,000-liter oak Fuder.

To complete your traditional Thanksgiving meal of turkey and all the sides, you can’t go wrong with a Red Côtes du Rhône. The La Solitude Red Blend is a Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre blend.  This wine is easy drinking, approachable, flavorful and will pair well with a variety of flavors, which you find on most Thanksgiving tables.

NOTES:  The wine is a beautiful ruby-red color with an intense nose of red berries and spices. It is supple and generous on the palate with a very fine and elegant tannic structure.

FEL SAVOY Vineyard Anderson Valley Pinot Noir
There is more than 1 FEL Pinot Noir this is the Single Vineyard Bottle

Savoy Vineyard, long recognized as a benchmark vineyard in Anderson Valley, is located in the “Deep End” of the valley, west of the town of Philo. The maritime influence and moderate daytime temperatures contribute to the wine’s elegant flavor profile and silky tannins. This blend represents the confluence of two eras of Savoy Pinot Noir – the original, mature blocks of Dijon clones 115 and 114, and the younger plantings of California “heritage clones,” including Martini, Calera, Swan and Mt. Eden.

NOTES:  Perched between the last stand of old-growth redwoods in Anderson Valley and a flank of hills shrouded in oaks and chapparal, Savoy is a study in terroir. Like the vineyard, the wine’s texture is polished with delicate edges. The nearby woods come through in the spiced plum and sumac nose, while the rugged California hills are alive in the concentrated boysenberry and date palate, with a lingering floral quality of rose petal.
